About Me

My grandfather supported his large family building custom furniture. As a young child I was surrounded by his craftsmanship in our home and his, which inspired me to explore the craft all through high school. But after graduating, the skills I learned lay dormant for many years as I pursued education and a career in engineering.

At the beginning of 2013 my wife and I converted our garage into a shop and outfitted it with equipment, fulfilling the decades-long dream to pursue woodworking further as a hobby.

My first cut on the table saw brought my life into singular focus: this is what I am made for, everything else was only preparation. With my wife's blessing and the Lord's challenge to bust out of self-imposed boundaries, I left a successful 18-year professional engineering career to pursue this passion and continue in my grandfather's footsteps.

We founded the company in 2013, incorporated in 2015, and have since expanded into other areas of our home. Aktuality Designs Custom Furniture is a fully family-owned and operated business. We are conveniently located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and are pleased to support other locally owned and operated suppliers with our business activities.
